Food Bites: A blog about Reno's dining and restaurant scene
Monday nights, area Denny's will donate 10% of your total bill to the school of your choice. All you have to do is ask...
Beginning Friday, Feb. 1 the Peppermill’s Romanza Ristorante Italiano will be featuring new early-bird specials Monday – Friday, 5:30– 6:30 p.m.
Starting Friday, Feb. 1 the Peppermill’s Steak House will feature new early bird specials Monday through Friday, 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
I haven't done this in this space before but I'm going to recommend a place that is giving locals a total steal. Grand Sierra Resort's Lodge Buffet is normally about $18 a person.
Whoa-Grand Sierra Resort is offering a special Lodge Buffet price of $7.77 with the swipe of a Nevada ID. Check it out. Get your meal for a steal.
Starting Sunday, Jan. 13 the Peppermill will premier Reno’s most tantalizing Sunday Brunch in the new Biscotti’s restaurant.
I'm trying to buy a car right now ... two, in fact. For my kids. One's about to get her license, the other just totaled her car.
Nighttime specials at the Americana Café
This month has turned into a stress factory, beyond the normal holiday insanity. And now I'm sick. I'm pretty sure it's nature's way of saying "slow the heck down, Megg" ... and sadly, I'm bound to listen.
Effective Dec. 3, the Town Square Buffet hours of operations will be as follows:
Atlantis Casino Resort Spa is proud to announce the addition of Clayton Slieff to the team! Slieff has taken over the duties of Room Chef at MonteVigna Italian Ristorante, on the second floor at Atlantis.
Sushi Moto is a newer sushi restaurant in the Reno area, located in South Reno. Although it hasn’t been around for long, already it’s been voted one of the best sushi joints.
OK, really, there are just a few things this week that have made me go "huh," for better and for worse. I've included things I love about Reno, and a few things I don't dig so much. Let's face it ... nowhere is perfect.
It's almost time to pack away the mountain bike and wax up the skis. Is it too much to hope that the recent wet weather is really a sign of things to come this year? I'm looking at the rain falling right now, and all I can say is I hope it is.
The Silver Club’s Port of Subs is now serving pizza! Order pizza by the slice for $1.50; 12-inch whole pizza witn one topping for $7; or a 16-inch whole pizza with one topping for $9. Additional toppings are 50 cents each.
For breakfast, diners can enjoy the delicious Reno Skillet for $8.99. This entrée includes three farm fresh eggs scrambled with ham, bacon and sausage, served over potatoes with country gravy and jack and cheddar cheese.
"Isn't it nice to see women on stage who aren't taking their clothes off?" asked Go-Go's bassist Kathy Valentine, from her place on the stage during a break in the show at the Silver Legacy, Oct. 6.
This town .. what is it about this town? It's gritty, sassy, chic (sort of) and edgy. I don't know another city that has such a split personality as my hometown. Or is it just the people who have split personalities?
Tonight is back-to-school night at Damonte Ranch High School. My daughter, Molly, is a junior there, so I will be sitting in those little seats tonight, trying not to fidget, hoping to impress the teacher with my eager smile.
Seeing Helmet perform live at Club Underground Sept. 17 confirms two facts: One, they make everyone else who plays music in that vein look like an amateur, and second, they are one of the most underappreciated (read: Unsung) bands in show biz.
Thank god for Sup. Where has this place been all my life?
I’m sorry, but I wasn’t aware that Reno was in need of even more icky sushi. You know, the kind that makes you realize you live nowhere near the ocean.
Reno.com had the pleasure of being a major sponsor for the Great Reno Balloon Race this past weekend. We also created, along with our newspaper group, the official program and were hosts of the Race's information booth.
Nestled inside an office complex next to the airport is Albitas Mexican Restaurant. If you've ever been to one of the Cal-Mex places around town (think Qdoba, Bajio, or Kokopelli's), you'll recognize the system.
Cold Stone, or Baskin Robbins?
Why are Round Table, Godfather’s, and Pizza Hut still around when you can get a large, $5 pizza at Little Caesar’s? I mean, the pizza at Little Caesar’s is just as delicious, if not better as the pizza at any of those other chains, so…what exactly...
Although I came to Q's to play pool and have a cocktail, the food lived-up precisely to expectations, meaning "brilliantly".

So it's August, and like many of you I'm sure, I can barely believe it. Where does the summer go? It always seemed so long when I was kid; now it just zooms by like everything else at this age.
A friend of mine called, screaming, "I need a muffin! I crave a muffin! Where can we get one?"
When's the last time anyone had a fast food hot dog? Not very often, otherwise you'd see more than just Wienerschnitzel and A&W serving them. Why people have issues against random meats in a casing is not a mystery to me.
Can anyone tell me where I can get a fabulous salad in this city, that isn’t dull, too small, or a mere bellyache waiting to happen? I’m not a fan of fruit in salads, and am sick of the typical flavor-filled salads, which include bleu cheese and...
I am one huge fan of Carrows! Whether it be the Carrows on Wells or the Carrows on Plumb, I’m there. After all, there really isn’t a difference between their two locations. They look the same, feel the same, and taste the same.
If you've ever been a University of Nevada, Reno student, or have ever known one, you’ve probably ended at Pub'N'Sub at least once, and you're probably quite familiar with what they have to offer.
Over near Sparky's is a little pizza place called Bear's Pizza, that never seems to be crowded when I'm there. It's a shame, too, because they have some amazing pizza, a good, intimate atmosphere, and cute, friendly waitresses.
Company comes to town, so what do I do? I take my guests to the casinos for a little gaming fun. Yeah, some people like that stuff. Me? The only reason to go to the casinos is to see a show or eat. That's how I prefer to give them my money.
I recently reviewed Tivoli Garden’s, focusing solely on their desserts…but I think it’s time to stress the overall quality of this place (including food), as it has really declined.
I visited Antojitos somewhat casually, trying to find a different Mexican place that I hadn’t already frequented.
John’s Oyster Bar inside the Nugget is seriously the best place to get pan roast ever. And this is coming from a huge pan-roast fan. For those of you who haven’t tried it, pan roast is pretty much fish soup.
Although it’s a chain, I still believe that International House of Pancakes is the best place to get breakfast. Especially at the IHOP in Northwest Reno. This one, unlike
What a week. I've got company in town this week, visiting for nine days from Maryland. They arrived last Saturday, and on Sunday I took them to see Lake Tahoe, figuring that was the top of the "must do" list.
The Quizno’s location at Sierra Center Parkway is by far our food-writers' favorite. It’s always a quick in-and-out stop, which makes it well worth the lunch-break drive, staff is friendly and the environment is bright, cozy and clean...
BJ's -- Can someone please explain to me what all the hype is about this place? I mean, yes, they have great pizza.
After days of margarita-hopping and sampling as many margaritas I possibly could without dying, I’ve narrowed down a list of Reno’s Top 5 Margaritas. Check it out.
Having frequently eaten at the Juicy's on Wells, I thought it might be interesting to find out if there's any difference between one Juicy's and another.
Just a head's up to all you active folks out there ... some of Reno's trailheads seem to be luring thieves. A report went out to my bike club that last week, all of the cars parked at the Keystone Canyon trailhead were broken into.
Whenever I’m in the mood for some Thai food with an informal atmosphere, I go to Thai Lotus. The interior is plain, and the food, although tasty, is quite basic. Well, I revisited this place a couple of weeks ago, and noticed they changed the décor.
Good & Looney's is easily the best BBQ that I've ever had in this town. And, since I’m on an apparent BBQ rampage, I definitely have something to compare it to.
If you've ever been to Round Table pizza, you have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Mountain Mike's. The only difference is their more rustic decor, better lighting, and a bigger menu.
Is it me, or are people a little tense lately? I've talked before in this space about how nice people in Reno are, and how it was such a nice thing to see when I moved back home. But lately, well, let's just say people need to relax a little bit!
"BBQ House" is definitely new - there's a fresh coat of paint on everything, including the red benches outside. That said, this is definitely a "blue collar" establishment, which would've been guaranteed by its location alone. Parking is iffy.
King Buffet is one of those places that you'll either love or hate, depending how adventurous you feel and how much you enjoy "authentic" food.
Summer is coming and I need some help. I've got a kid, you see, and with the end of the school season comes with it the oft-heard cry "there's nothing to do here!" My daughter, Molly, is just weeks shy of 16 but won't have her license this summer.
There's a place on the corner of Moana Lane and Neil Road that's kind of hidden in the back of a little tiny shopping area, mostly stocked with places to eat.
Skyline Café at the top of Skyline Drive is a superb place to eat, especially in the warmer months when you can sit outside and look at the view of downtown Reno.
There’s this awesome pizza joint on Rock Drive, right near where Reno starts to turn into Sparks, called Boulevard Pizza. This place is so cool! It’s probably one of the better pizza joints in our city, and not that many people even know about it.
Lemonade from Lemons: Music fan's horrible experience reminds her just why she started coming to shows in the first place.
The Hacienda on McCarran and Seventh St. is really, really tasty. They have amazing chimichangas that I recommend you give a try. They’re really big and have quite the unique taste…not easily comparable to other chimichangas around town.
Has anyone ever been to that Honey Baked Ham place? I keep hearing mixed reviews on it, and have been avoiding it for just that reason.
Siamese Hut is a great place to get Thai food, although, their Tom Ka Gai tastes much…different than the Tom Ka Gai that most Thai places serve in Reno. It’s as though they’ve added a splash of Chanel No. 5 to the mix, or something.
Sometimes, it's the stuff that's right in front of you that escapes you the most. I've had a weird couple of weeks; nothing fatal, but just nose to the grindstone, lots of people after me for things kind of weeks.
The news lately has been kind of a bummer. Fortunately most of the tragic events haven't happened in Reno, but still, it's been a bad news cycle. I am a 13-year newspaper journalist, so I have my sources for news ... or so I thought.
Has anyone ever been to the Port of Subs on the corner of Kietzke and Moana lanes, in the parking lot where the old Target used to be?
Alright, readers…I’m putting you up to another challenge.
I was reading a fellow Northern Nevadan music lover's blog the other day, and she proclaimed that, "The Reno music scene sucks!" And then she proceeded to post a photo of a billboard proclaiming the return of -- well, a performer that someone in her...
I don’t understand all the hype about Chevy’s.
Alright, readers. I need your help, big time. This is a mission for all the fellow spicy-food lovers in the Reno and surrounding area.
