The Krispy Kreme store at 5050 Kietzke Lane (off South McCarran) has closed.

Krispy Kreme, one of America's favorite doughnut makers, is no longer in Reno. As of 10 p.m. last night, the sole source of the warm, gooey-glazed doughnut is no more.

The decision to close was made by the franchise owners who had many reasons for closing shop, primarily the cost of diesel fuel.

The first Krispy Kreme doughnuts were created by Vern Rudolph in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in 1937. He bought the recipe of a French chef in New Orleans and began baking and marketing the treats to area grocers, according to www.krispykreme.com.
